On a recent evening, the three of us went into the backyard to play. I've set up the soccer goal Cate gave Niranjana for her birthday, and I've been encouraging her to bend it like Beckham.
I noticed last fall that Niranjana was pretty good at hitting the plastic baseball off the "T" so I thought I'd see how she would do if I tossed it to her. The first pitch, as I recall, was a pretty good grounder toward first base. The second was a swing and a miss. The third was a line drive straight up the middle, and I had to show a bit of agility to keep it from becoming a part of my anatomy.
We just might be on to something here.
The next day, Niranjana and I were out in the yard, and Vanessa, Cate and Kenton came over to watch the exhibition. Niranjana hit a few line drives for them, and Vanessa said she thought she could hear my dad cheering from heaven (he was my Pee-Wee and Babe Ruth coach growing up).
Today, Auntie Rain and Uncle Alan came over. I could not resist showing off these newly discovered skills. They were plenty amazed, especially when Niranjana belted one across the yard that missed going over the neighbors' fence by no more than an inch.
So after we got home from a birthday party late this afternoon, we shot some video, which you can view right here.
After this display, you might well agree with me that our little Tamil tiger has a chance to break Major League Baseball's gender barrier.

fun!
So are you starting a pool yet as to when the first broken window will occur? With a swing like that, it won't be long! :)
