Reality, part 2: Bad Habits

Bad habits die hard. When we were a double-income-no-kids house, Andy and I had some bad habits. Read a book instead of cleaning the house, buy lunch instead of making a sandwich, start a DVD at 9 p.m., sleep in on weekends.

The areas where we were disciplined before — or had a system set up — have held strong with our new life as parents. The other habits have disappeared, only to be replaced by ones that are similar. For example, weekend mornings start earlier but unless there's a playdate we might not be ready to venture out until noon.

With an upcoming move to another preschool, we're going to have to start making lunches. Yikes! That's creating a chain reaction to tighten up some of our other daily practices. Wish us luck!

My advice to other soon-to-be-parents of toddlers: Figure out what habits you want to change and start working on them now. Get that closet cleaned out, your desk organized, establish an exercise routine, etc.

Lunches

I make lunches the night before and put them in the fridge, it has become part of our routine. Amazingly this has helped me with eating lunch in my office over the past few years (I had a tendency to run out and grab something A LOT). If I am making Leif a lunch, I might as well pack myself one too at the same time.

Now to transition to making two kids' lunches in 2 weeks!
