Reality, part 3: Making a difference

I own lots of organizing books. They are grouped together on a book shelf in an organized fashion. The only one I ever finished reading, however, is one I borrowed from my mother-in-law.

"It's hard to make a difference when you can't find your keys," by Marilyn Paul.

This book doesn't tell you to go out and buy color-coordinated file folders and plastic baskets (even thought that's really fun to do). It helps you think about why things are the way they are, what you want them be, and guides you in figuring out the best way for you to get there by working through the layers of disorganization over time instead of expecting an instant change.

I read this about four years ago. I underlined things. I wrote notes. I implemented several things that I'm pretty sure still are with me.

Life is different now, however. The big-picture goals I wrote at the time are surprisingly the same, but the path to reach them has new obstacles that I haven't figured out yet.

So I picked up the book again. I'm on page 10, subtitled "How do I get off this merry-go-round?" I'll let you know when my merry-go-round stops.
