I thought I was prepared. I had diligently packed a suitcase for Niranjana following the checklist from our adoption agency and traveling advice from friends with toddlers. The checklist specifially said not to bring shoes, so I didn't. Strike one. It also said to bring baby lotion but did not say to bring baby soap/shampoo. Strike two.
The orphanage provided a going-away outfit (the pink dress with the wide white embroidered collar), a new pair of pink underpants, a pair of socks and a pair of black open-toed shoes. The shoes are cute, but don't seem to fit quite yet. And the time we needed to walk in them, it was obvious that Niranjana is a barefoot gal. Clunk clunk clunk.
Sandals are on the top of the list, once we figure out what size she wears. And she'll have to make do with Dial soap for now, followed by Aveeno baby lotion. Having just gotten Dial soap in my eyes while showering in water that you're not supposed to drink, I will be VERY careful during tomorrow morning's "bath" (a washcloth wipedown) with Niranjana.
