Indian Dancing

We went to an Indian Dance Recital on Sunday. Niranjana wore one of her "sparkle dresses" that Ammaji bought in north India. Aunt Rain and Uncle Alan joined us there. All us girls wore bindis, although Niranajana removed her bindi and bangles partway through.

We prepped our girl that there would be a lot of people who looked like her, and that everyone there would know how to say her name correctly. There were nearly 200 people plus Indian food for $2/plate at intermission.

The dancing, primarily southern Indian style dances done by junior high and high school girls, was great. Live music was a nice touch. Niranjana was focused for about half of the show. We ran a few laps in the lobby and up the stairs, then ended up leaving before the last number as it had been three hours already. She did do a little dancing in her seat at one point. Andy might post video, when he has time.

Contacting the teacher is on my list. If she takes children as young as 5, we'll probably sign up for some lessons. We did a trial ballet/tap class recently (thanks Aunt Nessa!), but I think Niranjana liked wearing the tap shoes and tutu more than she liked the slow-paced hour in the studio. The Indian dancing was fast-paced and seemed like a great match for our active girl.
