If you work for the government, please don't read this. Just move on.
When we received Niranjana's green card back in late 2007, her name was listed as "No Name Given Niranjana." Thus, her last name was Niranjana and her first name, well, wasn't given.
We thought this was pretty funny. I could imagine some government drone typing in names all day, earning more than I do and not worrying one bit about accuracy.
Now we move on to the subject of her "Certificate of Live Birth" as recorded by the State of Washington. It came in the mail Saturday.
It has her first, middle and last names correct. Same with her date of birth and sex. However, there's a bit of a problem with her country of birth.
"Ireland."
Niranjana has beautiful eyes, but they aren't Irish. Her mommy is an O'Neil, so maybe that threw somebody off. And you don't have to go back too many generations to find a Perdue from Tipperary.
Still, there is no mistaking our little brown-eyed girl for anything but Indian.

Vija's greencard says "no name given, Vijakshana."
Poor child. She goes by a nickname version of her middle name, neither of which are ever pronounced correctly when read. She also has two last names with no hyphen, which forever causes us problems. When she gets married she'll probably just change the whole thing to Jane Smith. :)
