I'm about 66 percent done with redecorating Niranjana's room, with the firm intention that she then will sleep there.
It took about six weeks to figure out the scheme and pinpoint a weekend when I could paint with Disney Behr colors from Home Depot. Niranjana said she wanted a Jasmine room. Since Jasmine gear can be hard to find, I steered her toward "a room that Jasmine would want to sleep in."
In-progress photos are posted on my Facebook page (Melissa O'Neil Perdue, the photo of me with Niranjana), but you'll have to scroll down to last weekend's posts. We'll get photos on the blog when the room is done.
Here are the funny things that happened so far:
— I let Niranjana paint a little of the blue with me ("Underwater Wonder," sort of a ocean-turquoise). After about 10 minutes with her roller, she wanted me edger. Nope. She wanted to crack open the magenta accent paint ("Jasmine's Gems). Nope. Just as I had planned, she then was bored and Andy was able to clean her up and divert her for the rest of the intense painting.
— Niranjana walks in as I'm painting the top half of one of the walls white ("A Whole New World"). "What are you doing?" she asks brusquely. I countered with a line from Aladdin: "Do you trust me?" The answer was yes, and she left. Whew.
— I was trying to clean myself up and thought I had white paint in my hair. It wasn't paint. It was an actual white hair. Drat.
— Prepping the room is OK. Painting is fun. Cleaning up is a pain. I said more swear words trying to get the dang tape off the wall and trim than I did during the painting. I had painted over the tape in enough places that I was using a razor blade to get it off.
This weekend I'm painting the Jasmine's Gems horizontal stripe (at chair rail height), then I'll be stenciling gold and silver stars (Tinkerbell Pixie Dust stencil, Home Depot) in the magenta. I also need to paint a little bookshelf in the magenta.
Last will be figuring out the final touches to turn this into an Indian/Arabian Princess Room....and if Niranjana won't sleep in it by then, I might just move in.

A sheer curtain canopy over
A sheer curtain canopy over the bed would be very Jasmine-y, and lots of extra pillows...and stuffed tiger, too :)
