Sunday School Must Be Working

Niranjana has been going to Sunday School since late November. She moved up last week from the preschool room to the Adventure Club, which is Kindergarten through Second Grade. Part of this "graduation" process included receiving an NIV Adventure Bible for Kids. This is a big, heavy book (OK, an actual Bible) that is meant to last Niranjana through elementary school.

Two related funnies from yesterday:

We go to church and Sunday School with our friend, Leif. His mother reported that when he was picking up his Bible to bring to church he looked at her, aghast, and said "I don't have to read that all today, do I?"

At the dinner table, Niranjana, Andy and I were playing I Spy. Usually it's I spy something red or I spy something that starts with "G." Last night, Niranjana announced, "I spy something invisible." After I finished laughing, Andy guessed air, I guessed love, ambition and God - in that order.

"Nooo," Niranjana said, happy to have tricked us. "It's Jesus!"

Night after night Vija asks

Night after night Vija asks for the same Bible story, the story of Joseph, which she refers to as the "throw him in the hole" story. I think people wonder what we are teaching her!

I love it!

Too funny! On the way to tennis this morning Leif asked if "Walking with Dinosaurs" would go to heaven. I was totally perplexed. He finally said, "well you told me the other day that it probably travels to all of the states!" Okayyyy... back to the explanation of what heaven is... we had used the word "state" with "heaven" to describe a state of existence... state of being... mental state. Not California!
