We have had a run of live-action PG movies. We are ending this run, however, after Niranjana has expressed an undue amount of concern over some of the plot and characters. And here we thought she was up to it. She said she wasn't scared .... oops.
Here are some sample questions:
Whose team would you rather be on: The White Witch (Narnia), Medusa (Percy Jackson & The Olympians) or mine? (Duh, the answer is Niranjana's team)
Why does Medusa have snakes on her head?
Why doesn't Indiana Jones like snakes? (Watch "Raiders" and tell me if that movie would rate a PG in today's era! We turned that one off after finding a "happy" mid-point to end on).
Would you please take the shark puppet and the wood toy snake from India out of my room? I can't sleep with them in there.
Who would you like to see win: Aslan (Narnia), the Devil (Hades in Percy Jackson) or me? (I'll give you one guess.)
Surprisingly, she's not scared of Star Wars and Darth Vader. And she likes Aslan from Narnia - in fact, she claims to be playing Narnia at school with a couple of friends. Niranjana says she's Susan (the older sister), although I think she'd make a better Lucy.
We tried watching Harry Potter #1 last summer and she didn't like the end where Harry battled with Voldemort. Niranjana knows the story well from the Wii game and casual conversation, but I want her to love the books and movies, so we haven't pushed this. She'll be ready soon enough. And like Darth Vader, she doesn't seem all that worried about Voldemort.
So we're back to animated flicks for a while ... unless it involves a happy theme like Enchanted, or Mr. Bean, or Mary Poppins. Yes, we're a pop-culture movie family!

How about Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or That Darn Cat?
Hmmm... Indiana Jones Connection!
Leif asked last night if we could watch Indiana Jones together! I had no idea where he had even heard of Indiana! Of course at the time I thought it sounded like a great idea and said, "why don't we rent it this weekend!" Maybe not?
Leif has an obsession with "The Nightmare Before Christmas". I kind of planned on keeping that between us. But he apparently talks all about it at school and has been teaching the songs to the kids including (sigh), "Kidnap Mr. Sandy Claws".
