Right where she needs to be

On Friday, Niranjana got her annual wellness check, and she is doing great.

The tale of the tape (and scale): 48 inches tall and 51.5 pounds.

This compares with 45.5 inches tall and 47 pounds a year ago. I could swear she has picked up more than 2.5 inches by the way she's able to reach things like the garage door button and things piled on top of the TV cabinet.

This keeps her squarely in the 50th percentile (a measurement of white, North American-born children) and up considerably from where she was when she arrived in September 2007: 36.5 inches and 30 pounds and in the 7th and 17th percentiles, respectively.

Everything appears healthy, according to our family doctor, who was pleased with her progress and amused by her antics.

On the graph that shows her progress compared with the population, I noticed her weight actually had taken a slight dip. Dr. Cain said it was nothing to worry about, and I quipped that frankly it was a relief to see she isn't on the same track as overweight North American children, who are bombarded with marketing messages for unhealthy food. Considering Niranjana's sweet tooth, this actually is quite a relief.
