What's in a name?

Niranjana. This is our beautiful daughter's name. It's who she has been since she was 10 days old and who she shall be for as long as she chooses.

"Niranjana" has a few different meanings:

-- In Hindi, Niranjana means, "Pure, free from falsehood."

-- In Sanskrit, Niranjana is an expression that means, "The night of the full moon."

-- In India, Niranjana is another name for the Goddess Durga. Durga rocks, by the way. She rides a tiger or lion and is the embodiment of feminine and creative energy. She's also the mother of Ganesh, one of the most worshipped Hindi gods. Ganesh is the elephant who rides around on a mouse.

-- The Niranjana River is a tributary of the Ganges. Siddhartha is said to have sat beneath a tree along the Niranjana River near the village of Uruvela. He meditated for six years until he gained enlightenment and became the Buddha.

-- In his book, "Your Name Reveals Your Nature," Priti Sehrawat writes: "Niranjana does not want to be led. She wants to lead. She wants to achieve her own success, make her own mistakes and learn from them, take credit for her achievements and make her own decisions in personal and professional life. She is a very original and creative person who can seize the limelight with her innovation, venturesome spirit and progressive ways of thinking. She enjoys competitions and happily jumps in with her bright ideas, stamina and perseverance to beat the opposition."
